Turkey

The summer of 2011 I traveled to Turkey to study abroad on the Duke in Turkey program for six weeks.  It was an unforgettable experience in a country that certainly left an impact on my heart.  The spires and minarets of mosques, the smell of meat sizzling on spits in the store windows, the sound of the muezzin sounding the call to prayer will be ingrained in my memory forever.  While I was in Istanbul for most of time, I had the opportunity to travel to Bursa (the first capital of the Ottoman Empire), Iznik (modern day Nicea), Konya (the home of the famous Sufi, Rumi), Cappadochia (the only place in the world you can find fairy chimneys), Princes Islands (right outside Istanbul), and Antakya (modern day Antioch, near the Syrian border).
